Not much new

As the title suggests, there isn't much to write about. The last few weeks have been kind of slow here. This week I am playing History and Geography teacher. So far most of the kids have been great, but you always get a few that think having a sub is a good excuse for not doing what they are asked. These next few days are going to be worse I'm sure as everyone is excited about our Lunar New Year break coming up on Wednesday. I am going to run out to the store tomorrow to pick up a big gift package for the kitchen staff here. They all work so hard feeding us and even though we may not always like what they cook, they still put a lot of effort into what they do. I love that they all know Tyson and chef will go out of his way to make him something special when he can. He and Tyson always have fun making faces at each other or playing the occasional game of soccer when the time allows. I wish that I could get everyone who works here something, but I just can't afford that. I am going to try to also pick up something for the cleaning ladies though; they are always working so hard with such little thanks.

Anyway, they upcoming break is much needed and I am looking forward to it with open arms. Hopefully I will have more to write about because Jeff, Tyson and I are hoping to go to Busan for a few days over our break. Also today is DIS first talent show. I am super excited to see the kids perform their dances, songs and other talents they have been working so hard on. Hopefully I will have lots of photos and movie clips in my next post.

No longer a baby!

These past five years have gone by in the blink of an eye and yet I have a hard time remembering my life before him. He has completed my life in every way and I thank God for every moment that he is with me. He has brought more meaning, purpose and love into my life than I ever thought possible. He is my reason for everything and I hope someday when he welcomes his first child into the world, he will really understand the love I have always had for him. Happy Birthday Tyson..........Love always, Mommy........

30 The good, the bad and the just plain ugly!!

So today is January 13th and it's my 3oth Birthday. I am not sure what I expected, but this is not how I have pictured my big 3-0. It started off with some not so kind words from my wonderful son, but there is no need to share that touching moment here. The rest of the day was spent subbing in the library for an hour or so before lunch, then heading back to my dorm room to wait for school to get out. Jeff was nice enough to bring me out to dinner, but well it was just very uneventful. No birthday cards, no candle to make a wish on, not even a stupid your over the hill t-shirt to open. I never had much of a sweet 16 party, and my 21st well that was a huge flop, so I thought that maybe, just maybe that Jeff would try to make this Birthday really special. Guess it would have been better not to get my hopes up. He did buy me a great new laptop that will arrive in the next few weeks, but other than that it was just any other day. The one thing that really made me sad was that it was also our 5th wedding anniversary and he completely forgot. So to sum it all up, my 30th has come and gone with not much to write about, a few tears and less expectations for future.

Well this week was about as boring as could be. I spend much of the week in my room after I managed to pull something in my neck. I believe this was the first week since arriving here that I never even left the campus. Hopefully this week will have a lot more positive sides to it.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

This year we kept the holiday very low key. We called my parents, even though it felt a bit strange calling them at 10:00am, to be with us while we rung in the New Year. We tried to find something on TV to watch how Korea celebrates the holiday, but we were unable to find anything. I did find on the internet that in Soul, they ring a large bell 33 times to welcome the New Year. It is also very popular to sit along the beach, drink in hand of course, and watch the sun rise for the first time. We also though it would be fun to look up the Chinese Zodiac sign and found that this year is the year of the RABBIT. It is said that people born in the Year of the Rabbit are articulate, talented, and ambitious. They are virtuous, reserved, and have excellent taste. Rabbit people are admired, trusted, and are often financially lucky. They are fond of gossip but are tactful and generally kind. Rabbit people seldom lose their temper. They are clever at business and being conscientious, never back out of a contract. They would make good gamblers for they have the uncanny gift of choosing the right thing. However, they seldom gamble, as they are conservative and wise. They are most compatible with those born in the years of the Sheep, Pig, and Dog. Even thous this isn't my year, since I am a Monkey, I still believe this year is going to bring many wonderful things! I am very excited to be here for Lunar New Year in Februrary and experience their traditions with them.

To help my family welcome their New Year, we called at 1:45pm and waited to share their countdown. My parents were in Florida this year and decided to go to Pleasure Island for the festivities. I could hear over the phone that it was crowded and noisy, but that's half of the fun of the holiday. It was so nice to be able to be on the phone with them, didn't make the distance seem as vast. My wish for my entire family for the upcoming year is Health, Happiness and to ring in 2012 with no one missing.
